Traditional arts with their own philosophy and forms — aikido, kung fu, capoeira and tai chi — and the sport of fencing.

  • Aikido

    Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the first half of the 20th century.

  • Kung fu (wushu)

    Kung fu is the common name for the Chinese martial arts; in China they are usually called wushu.

  • Capoeira

    Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art developed by enslaved Africans and their descendants.

  • Tai chi

    Tai chi (taijiquan) is a Chinese martial art that most people today practise as a gentle health exercise: slow, flowing movements linked into a continuous sequence called a form, with calm, even breathing.

  • Fencing

    Fencing is a combat sport with blades: two fencers score by touching each other with a weapon on a long, narrow strip called the piste.
