Kangoo Jumps

Kangoo Jumps is a cardio class in special rebound boots: under each boot is a curved spring that works like a small trampoline. Kangoo Jumps is a brand name for these boots and the workouts done in them. You run, jump and dance to music, bouncing on the springs with every step.

  • Cardio and endurance: the bouncing raises your pulse quickly.
  • Stronger legs, buttocks and trunk — they work all the time to keep you steady on the springs.
  • Balance and coordination.
  • A playful, energetic workout: the springs soften each landing, so jumping feels lighter than in ordinary shoes.
  • The boots: studios usually provide them for the class. They come in shoe sizes, and the springs come in different strengths for different body weights, so tell the studio your shoe size in advance.
  • Long socks that reach above the top of the boot, so it does not rub.
  • Fitted sports clothes and a towel.
  • Plenty of water — you will sweat.
  • Usually 45–60 minutes.
  • In your first class you learn to put on and fasten the boots, then to stand, walk and bounce in them. Most people feel unsteady for the first few minutes and then get used to it.
  • A warm-up, then the main part: running on the spot, jumps, kicks and simple dance moves to music, as intervals or a short choreography.
  • The instructor shows how to land with soft knees and an upright trunk.
  • A cool-down at the end; the stretching is often done with the boots off.
  • Classes differ in style — some are close to a dance class, others to HIIT.
  • People who want energetic cardio with a sense of fun.
  • Anybody bored of ordinary aerobics.
  • Beginners with reasonable balance — the basic moves are simple.
  • People who like training to music in a group.
  • It suits less anybody with poor balance, ankle or knee injuries or back problems, or in pregnancy: the boots make you taller and less stable. Ask your doctor first and tell the instructor.
