Grappling

Martial arts of throws, holds and ground fighting: Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, sambo and grappling.

  • Brazilian jiu-jitsu

Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling art built around fighting on the ground: you control your partner with positions and finish with submissions — chokes and joint locks — without any strikes.

  • Judo

Judo is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport in which you throw your opponent to the mat and control them on the ground with pins — and, for older students, chokes and armlocks.

  • Freestyle wrestling

Freestyle wrestling is one of the two Olympic wrestling styles.

  • Greco-Roman wrestling

Greco-Roman wrestling is one of the two Olympic wrestling styles.

  • Sambo

Sambo is a martial art created in the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 1930s; its name is a Russian abbreviation of self-defence without weapons.

  • Grappling

In a broad sense, grappling means any fighting with holds instead of strikes — wrestling, judo, jiu-jitsu.
